Faith Like Job: Standing Firm in the Face of Trials

A while ago, I was watching a sermon online. I don’t remember the preacher's name, but I remember him saying something that stuck with me. He said, if you’re going through something or if the devil is attacking you, you’re supposed to just sit back and let God deal with it. He said to give it all to Him and you don’t have to do anything about it—just hand it over to God.

Now, normally I would agree that, yes, you should give it to God. But as I listened to this, I realized I didn’t fully agree with what he was saying, at least not entirely. I remember thinking, "No, that’s not quite right. You’re not supposed to just sit back and let Him deal with it. That’s not how it works. You do your part, and God does His." You’re supposed to pray, fight, and move forward with God, even in tough times.

You see, if you’re going through something, or you feel like the devil is attacking you, you have a choice. You can fight back by praying, worshipping, and reading your Bible, or you can give up. You can choose to keep coming to church, keep fulfilling God’s calling on your life, or you can let the struggles weigh you down.

Sometimes, God allows us to go through difficult situations to refine us—to refine our spirit and make us stronger both mentally and spiritually. It’s a test of your faith, a test of your endurance, and your willingness to trust in Him. God doesn’t put you through things He knows you can’t handle. If you’re in it, it’s because He believes you can make it through to the other side. It’s about saying, "Yes, I can handle this. Yes, I can overcome this."

Take Job, for example. He was a man of God, strong in faith. When the devil asked to test Job, to see if he would break under pressure, God allowed it. He said, "You can take everything from him but his life," and watched as Job remained steadfast. The devil took his wife, his children, his wealth, his land—everything. Yet, despite all the pain and suffering, Job still rejoiced in the Lord. He remained faithful.
