Voting Biblically: A Call for Righteousness and Reflection

Since today is voting day, I thought I’d take a moment to share a reminder that’s been on my heart.

This past Sunday, my pastor reminded us to “vote biblically and righteously,” and I found myself reflecting on what this truly means. With the election so close, this is more than just a civic duty for us as Christians—it’s an opportunity to align our actions with God’s will and reflect His truth in our world. Voting is one of the most direct ways we can influence our nation’s path, and, as Christians, we have to think carefully about how our choices reflect our commitment to Him.
There’s a lot at stake beyond politics. As Christians, we’re not called to follow personalities or platforms but to bring our faith to the ballot box. Too often, people who profess faith still prioritize personal rights over God's word, saying things like, “their body, their choice,” or “if it doesn’t hurt anyone, it’s fine.” But our responsibility goes beyond tolerance; we’re here to help others see God’s truth and lead lives that honor Him. Allowing His moral standard to guide us isn’t about control—it’s about compassion and the real freedom that comes from living His way.
Spiritual warfare is real, and we’re in the midst of it. Our votes carry weight, especially since nearly 66% of Americans identify as Christian. Imagine the impact if we all voted based on biblical principles! It’s not that one party or candidate perfectly aligns with our faith—far from it. But by seeking the one whose views more closely align with biblical values, we’re exercising our faith actively. Even if they aren’t perfect, we can still work to ensure they uphold godly values and protect our freedom to worship and live according to our beliefs.
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. - 1 Timothy 2:1-4
If you’re talking about voting with others, especially those who believe differently, try to approach the conversation with humility and curiosity. Ask questions. Seek to understand. And don’t be afraid to share why you vote the way you do—this isn’t about forcing beliefs on others but about opening doors for real, meaningful conversations. In a world where so much seems to demand our silence on faith, we’re called to speak the truth with love, sharing the gospel, promoting righteousness, and standing firm in our commitment to the Lord.
As you prepare to vote, take a moment to pray and reflect. Ask God for guidance and for wisdom to vote in a way that honors Him. Our votes matter—now more than ever. Let’s take this opportunity to shine light into darkness and make choices rooted in faith, hope, and love.
Vote with purpose, with conviction, and above all, with faith.
